V-Day in Green Valley

The Vagina Monologues are the cornerstone of the V-Day movement, whose participants stage benefit performances of the show worldwide each year between February 1st and March 8th (International Women's Day. The first V-Day benefit took place on Valentine's Day 1998 and many of the local benefits are held on Valentine's Day. The "V" in V-Day stands for Valentine, Vagina, and Victory, linking love and respect for women to ending violence against women and girls. The proceeds from these performances go to programs that work to end violence against women and girls, including crisis centers and women's shelters.

And yes it will  be performed here in Green Valley -Directed by DD Jay and produced by Libby Beyrer.

I had the great delight of auditioning for a piece in this play - series of monologues recited by 20 women from Green Valley.

And I did get a small but keenly felt and funny monologue. I won't tell you which one.

The Play is February 15 @ 7:00 p.m. and

Saturday Feb 16th @ 2:00 p.m.

It is going to be held at  The Pima County Performing Arts Center 1250 W. Continental Road.

Tickets are $15 and you can email me for them or notify Libby at 269-7701 email ElizabethBeyrer @cox.net

BORDERLANDS THEATER

Can you put a plug in "June's Rag" for the Borderlands Theater. I met the producer, Barclay Goldsmith. When he learned I was a member of the GV Samaritans he asked me to spread the word to our members, which I did. The Web site for the 2007-2008 season offerings is www.borderlandstheater.org. Their performances and films reflect life in its diversity in the border region.

Thanks.  Richard.

TUCSON CHAMBER ARTISTS PRESENTS MUSIC OF FAITH AND JOY

Tucson Chamber Artists, Tucson's professional chorus, presents music of faith and joy on Saturday, October 27, 7:30 pm, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church (602 N Wilmot Road) and Sunday, October 28, 5:00 pm, at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church (2331 E Adams Street). The concert will be repeated in Green Valley on Sunday, November 4, 7:00 pm, at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior (555 S La Canada Drive). For ticket information: 520.401.2651 or www.TucsonChamberArtists.org.

In this program of masterworks, TCA will perform J.S. Bach's Magnificat and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria. The concert features the TCA chorus, soloists, and orchestra, with Steven Moeckel, Concertmaster.

Bach's Magnificat is one of the composer's most significant choral works. The ancient text of Mary in response to Gabriel's annunciation is among the greatest statements in the Christian tradition, while the liturgical Gloria text set by Vivaldi was first inspired by the angels' joyful melody at Christ's birth. TCA brings both these monuments of the Baroque era to life with their uniquely exuberant and historically-informed interpretation.
